A small advisory team with a network of specialist partners and one shared goal: explaining money so that you can decide for yourself. In English or German, in person rather than from a call centre.

My story
How Expavigate began
Alexander Murr
My interest in finance started with my father. He began investing on my behalf when I was a child and encouraged my curiosity about money and investments. I am still grateful for that early start. As I grew older, I wanted to understand how investing worked and what thoughtful, long-term planning could make possible.
My professional path initially led me into science. I completed a master's degree in physics at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München and went on to work in nanotechnology research. Research taught me to examine assumptions, understand how different factors interact and explain complex ideas clearly. Those habits continue to shape how I approach financial planning.
Working in an international research environment also introduced me to colleagues and friends from many countries, including PhD researchers. Alongside their scientific work, many were trying to understand an unfamiliar financial system: which insurance they needed, which cover might be unnecessary, and how to begin investing while building a life in Germany.
We started talking through these questions together. A few colleagues jokingly suggested that I should do this professionally. The idea stayed with me.
That journey introduced me to HORBACH business consulting, where I completed my training in financial planning. I chose this path because its holistic approach resonated with me: bringing different financial topics together, working with specialists and considering solutions from multiple providers.
My training developed that perspective further: considering insurance, investments, retirement and property together as parts of a personal financial plan.
The central question was how to connect individual financial decisions into a plan that fits someone's circumstances and goals. That approach continues to shape my work at Expavigate.
For me, holistic financial planning means looking at protection, cash reserves, investments, retirement and property as parts of the same plan. Each decision should reflect your goals and what you can comfortably afford. Working across providers means considering solutions from different companies within the available product range and explaining the basis for a recommendation.
What made this work especially meaningful was hearing from former university and research colleagues years later. Some told me that decisions made early had helped them build a stronger financial position. Others described how suitable insurance had eased the financial pressure of a difficult situation. Those experiences showed me the difference that clear guidance can make.
Expavigate grew from the wish to offer that guidance more widely. Together with a network of specialist advisers, I want to help people understand their options, protect what matters to them and plan for the future with greater confidence.
Whether you are new to Germany, starting your career or already building wealth, we take your questions seriously. We explain unfamiliar terms and help you connect financial decisions with the life you want to lead.
I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to build financial security and live with greater freedom of choice. Having fewer financial worries can create more space for family, personal ambitions and stronger relationships. That is the contribution we want to make.
